You can prevent a lot of problems if you put your outdoor air-conditioning unit on a platform or a concrete pad.
The elevation, even if it’s just several inches, will make the unit less vulnerable to weeds, creeping vines and pests in search of wiring and metal to chew. Cutting the grass around the outdoor unit will be easier, and flooding in heavy rainfall won’t be a constant worry.
The pad also ensures the unit is level, something not guaranteed when the unit is on soft ground that can sink. A lopsided unit is an inefficient unit; fluids won’t flow properly, for one thing.
