What’s your preferred AC temperature?

Here’s some information sure to spark discussion in homes from Islip to Dumbo, from Astoria to Park Slope.

The Department of Energy recommends that home air conditioners be set at 78 degrees when people are there during the day.

Are you cool with that number or is it making you hot under the collar?

The figure – 78 degrees Fahrenheit – is considered the best for providing both comfort and energy savings. Each notch lower on the thermostat brings higher utility bills.

But comfort is up to the individual, so we see a wide range on the thermostats we visit.

As for offices, the temperatures should be between 68 and 76 degrees and the humidity should be somewhere between 20 percent and 60 percent, according to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.

Tell that to the boss!
