A puddle of water near your HVAC system is a worrisome sight.
The fix may be simple or complicated, but first, turn off the system before matters get worse.
Suspect #1
The simple solution may be a dirty air filter that is inhibiting airflow and delaying the heat transfer. Clean or replace the filter and see if the leak resumes.
Suspect #2
If it keeps leaking, go to the drain pan, which may be clogged with dirt and debris. Clean the drain pan; it’s indoors at the base of the air handler. Also check the outside unit to see if foliage or other items are blocking it from functioning properly.
Suspect #3
Is the refrigerant level low? The system gets too cold if the level is low, causing the evaporator coil to freeze, then thaw and drip water. That may be where the leak is originating.
If these usual suspects are not the cause, then call an experienced HVAC technician to diagnose and solve the problem.
