Heat pumps are outselling gas furnaces for the first time.
Heat pump sales have been climbing for the past 10 years and “for the last two years, eclipsed gas furnace sales for the first time ever,” according to ACHR News, which covers the air conditioning, heating and refrigeration industries.
“The United States is one of the few major economies in the world where this is happening, despite high inflation, high interest rates, and more factors pointing toward the industry being in a repair-over-replace scenario.”
Several factors combine to cause the surge in heat pump sales: advanced technology making heat pumps strong enough to handle New York winters, improved fuel efficiency, less impact on the environment, and strong financial incentives from state and federal governments – as much as $2,000 or more.
Heat pumps comprise about 33 percent of total installations for heating, ventilation and air conditioning, ACHR news said.
