Wondering whether you should hire a tech to professionally prepare your AC for summer? There’s nothing exciting about maintenance, but …
Look no further than New York roads, where a lack of maintenance means potholes, bumps, delays and other ugliness for your daily ride.
New York is one of the worst states in the nation when it comes to smooth rides, according to TRIP, a nonprofit group that researches surface transportation systems nationwide.
“Nearly half of major locally and state-maintained roads are in poor or mediocre condition,” it said.
All those road hazards lead to repairs, lost time and extra fuel – an estimated $880 per motorist in and around New York City.
Invest in AC care
Don’t let your AC system go the way of New York roads. Instead, have an experienced technician check your system and be prepared for a sweat-free summer.
When you interview companies, make sure they tell you what is involved in their AC checkup.
It should include a top-to-bottom review, with these items on their must-do list to enhance safety and efficiency:
• Clean the condenser, evaporator coil and condensate drain.
• Test compressor amperage and the condenser blades and fan motor.
• Check coolant levels and determine if the system is running at optimal efficiency.
• Calibrate the thermostat and check wiring, contacts, relays and capacitors for tightening or replacement.
While an AC tune-up will cost money, you will be repaid with an energy-efficiency system less prone to expensive breakdowns and time-consuming fixes. Another bonus: The checkup can extend the system’s life, just as well-maintained cars run longer and better!
