Give your heat exchanger some TLC

If you have a problem with your furnace, hope that it’s not the heat exchanger.

That’s usually the most expensive part to repair or replace. And it’s essential to keep your home or business safe and warm in cold weather.

The heat exchanger’s job is to transfer heat from the burning fuel in the furnace to the air that circulates into your home, all while preventing dangerous combustion gases from mixing with the air you breathe. As you can imagine, that’s a big responsibility, so you never want the heat exchanger to fail or malfunction. Carbon monoxide poisoning can be the result.

A heat exchanger is built to handle high heat, but it does need periodic checks to make sure it’s not corroding.

If you have a technician inspect your furnace for routine maintenance, the heat exchanger should be at the top of his checklist.
